“Who will look after the dog while I am away?” – This is one of the biggest issues that dog owners face when they want to take a holiday. A recent survey found that over 80% of resorts and hotels in the UK prohibit guests from bringing dogs (even small ones). Clearly, the odds are stacked against pet owners, so it is often quite a challenge to find pet friendly accommodation.

Dog Friendly Accommodation

Although they might make up a smaller percentage of commercially available holiday lodgings, a number of accommodation alternatives exist that are dog friendly. If you prefer to holiday in style, there are a range of resorts and hotels worldwide that cater for pet owners. If you are more independent, you will be able to find a number of pet friendly caravan parks and pet cottages that will let you take care of your family and dogs your own way.

Helpful Tips

Hotel Owners – Stay at accommodation run by people who really understand animals. They will understand your pet’s needs and will make your pet friendly holidays stay much more pleasant.

Indoor Space (No Carpet) – Somewhere inside that the dog can dry off without risking the carpet becoming wet.

Outside Area – Ideally your holiday lodgings should include a secure, concreted outdoor area which allows you to let your dog out. This also doubles as a convenient place to clean off any dirty paws.

Outdoor Hose – After a busy day of walking or playing around in the outdoors, all the dirt can be washed away outside without the risk of soiling the inside of the premises.

Pet Friendly Restaurants – Finding perfect accommodation for your holiday with dogs is only half the battle. Equally important is to make sure there are enough local restaurants and eateries that also welcome pets. It is often recommended to call ahead and discuss with your hotel the cafe and restaurant options that are available where you will be holidaying.

Most importantly, enjoy your dog friendly holiday!
