FLYING WITH A WHEELCHAIR – AIRASIA

1. Before Travel Planning & Booking

 Don’t forget to click ‘YES’ in the checkbox requiring wheelchair services when you book flight ticket online. It will appear “Do you or anyone in your group require wheelchair services?” at the bottom of booking flight page.

If your trip will have a connecting flight, I recommend a layover of at least 90 minutes. This will allow you the time to move to your next departure gate and use the restroom. Once you’ve purchased your ticket, you’ll need to contact the airline to request any special assistance that you will need at the airport.

 Passengers with specific requirements regarding special assistance and Passengers with medical conditions/illnesses including those who may require administering or carrying medication/syringes on board are requested to contact via AirAsia live web chat or call centre 48 hours before the scheduled flight departure date to make a prior arrangement for the type of special assistance required.

 Passengers requiring wheelchair assistance are requested to pre-book the service at the time of booking or via Manage My Booking at least 4 hours before the scheduled flight departure time. Failure to notify may result in any special assistance or wheelchair service being unavailable upon your arrival at the airport and you being refused carriage, except where otherwise required by law.

2. At the Airport – KLIA 2

 Special emphasis was placed on the needs of physically-challenged visitors so every part of the terminal is accessible by wheelchair. There is also a buggy service, Braille in elevators and designated toilets. Ramps and people-movers or travelators are available throughout. Tact tiles lead from drop-off kerbside at Gateway@klia2 all the way to Departure Hall and from Arrival Hall to Gateway@klia2

3. Onboard the Plane

 Wheelchair/mobility devices that have no battery:

 Wheelchair/mobility devices that have no battery are allowed as Unchecked Baggage *.

*Unchecked Baggage means any baggage other than Checked Baggage including all items brought by passengers to the aircraft cabin.

 Note: For flights to/from US, we may have to check in your wheelchair as Checked Baggage if there are more than one wheelchair on the flight and wheelchair service shall be provided until arrival at the destination.

You may continue to use your wheelchair up to the aircraft door/ passenger steps after which it must be given to our staff to be loaded in the aircraft hold.

 We strongly encourage you to check in your wheelchair and use the one provided by us as some countries have strict health and safety regulations that do not allow staff to lift heavy items. Please refer our guide to pre-book Special Needs.​
